SPEAKING of John the baptiser (his son), Zechariah says this (in regard to John & Jesus) by the Holy Spirit's inspiration:
"And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace." What an amazing picture The Holy Spirit shared of Jesus Christ through this inspired song! God has sent Jesus as a "rising sun" from heaven, to cast his light on all those living in darkness (hopeless sin & death), to guide them into a path of PEACE. This promise/prohesy/picture still holds true for us today. Jesus shines like the sun on our darkness when we cry out to him, and once the darkness is gone, he replaces that darkness with a "path of peace". It reminds me of 2 Samuel 22:29..."The Lord is my lamp! He turns my darkness into light!" Not only does he solve the problem of darkness, he actually transforms our darkness into light, and brings us along a path of peace as we follow him by the Spirit, "putting to death one by one the mis-deed of the body"(Romans 8:13). What an amazing overture to relationship God has graced us in through Christ!
